The Uni studio I took up for first semester of 2021 was called designing with acknowledgement, a studio that involved "an exploration of the ways in which your design practice can be shaped by and demonstrate your connection to Indigenous peoples and  knowledges."
The first project was about Wominjeka (Woi-wurrung word for Welcome) and how I introduce myself and contextualise myself on indigenous land. The purpose of this was to guide our understanding to the importance of connecting to Country and respect to the Indigenous knowledges that surround us.
This was expressed in a video piece:
The next brief and outcome of this studio was to build off our introduction by writing our own Acknowledgment of Country and designing an artefact to represent that.
I presented my artefact as a zine feature article with my written acknowledgment designed across 12 pages, and a pair of collage, colour and type pages that doubled as a poster set.
The collages were created using all my own imagery - each specific to their respective locations (Gadigal and Wurundjeri Country). The rock stack formation represents the notion of reflection and meditation that was involved in my Acknowledgment writing experience.
